The Friends of St Cynllo’s Church planned Duck Race for the May Bank Holiday Weekend, with water levels low in the River Lugg after the dry spell, became a successful Duck Drop.
In the grounds of the Village Hall and over seven heats, yellow, plastic ducks cascaded from the bucket of the manitou to an awaiting target on the ground. Ten ducks from each heat, on or nearest to the centre of the target, made the Grand Final.
Those present, watched in anticipation as the numbers of the ducks “on target” were revealed, and most importantly, if their duck had made the final!
From the final, which rounded off the afternoon’s entertainment, came the three winning ducks and cash prizes for the lucky buyers.
In the hall, there were cakes and plants to purchase, prizes to win on tombola and the raffle, alongside the barbeque served from the kitchen hatch.
Games were also enjoyed inside and out, including old favourites of “Stepping 30 Yards,” (or metres depending on the tape measure at hand?!) “Name the Teddy Bear” and “What’s in the Socks?” A new game, “Guess the number of pints of beer in the bath,” estimating volume, rather than weight, proved a greater challenge to some! The skittles alley, as ever, was popular.
This summer fund raiser will certainly boost funds, which in turn benefits St Cynllo’s, and the Church Committee is most grateful for the continued support of the Friends.
