Llangunllo WI’s AGM and Evening “All About Wool”

Llangunllo WI Evening of Wool

For the first time in 102 years, Llangunllo WI held its AGM in March, rather than the traditional month of November, to reflect the NFWI new membership year.

Karen was re-elected President, other officers will remain in place for 2024 and we now look forward to enjoying the programme of speakers and visits planned for the rest of the year.

Business was discussed in a short meeting following the AGM and included members expressing interest in a possible Federation coach outing to the theatre and Malvern Flower Show and for our 2023 Programme to be included in the PRFWI Centenary Time Capsule.

We then enjoyed a “hands-on” session “All About Wool” with our own member Rebecca. There was a display of different types of wool, tools used to prepare the wool for spinning and a variety of books to browse. One of Rebecca’s favourite outings is to the annual “Wonderwool Wales” the premier Wool and Natural Fibre Festival in Wales held at the Royal Welsh Showground. She informed us about the different types of wool available and their use, demonstrated the tools and under her instruction, members carded the raw wool and took turns spinning the thread on the two wheels provided. Hanks of wool were naturally dyed using onion skins to give varying shades of yellow, gold and brown. Members then took the newly dyed hanks home to begin knitting for the County Show!!

At our next meeting on Tuesday 9th April, at 7 pm, in Llangunllo Community Hall, we are Line Dancing and visitors/new members are always welcome. Please see our 2024 Programme and contact details on the Llangunllo Community Website.
