The Community Harvest Festival, led by Rev Rachael, was held on Sunday 20th October at St Cynllo’s Church.
The congregation were welcomed with the singing of the traditional harvest hymn “Come ye thankful people come.” The first part of the service reflected on God’s Creation and included Psalm 65 and the hymn “For the beauty of the earth.”
The role of humankind, as God’s partner in his great creative work, was then celebrated and the montage “The Harvest of Life” was formed at the front of the church. Items were brought up, including those from the children, to represent how mankind brought forth God’s harvest – a harvest of nutrition and taste, to design, discovery, knowledge and interpretation, which in turn, brought forth the fruits of community. We then listened to the song “A Million Dreams” from The Greatest Showman.
Prayers, the reading of the poem “To Autumn” by John Keates and the singing of “We plough the fields and scatter” concluded the service.
Refreshments, including mulled cider, were enjoyed by those present and a donation from the collection will be given to Christian Aid.
