SHEBEENING IN RADNORSHIRE

At the Knighton Police Court on Thursday— before Messrs C. C. Rogers, H. M. Evans, and J. O. Jenkins—Daniel Griffiths, a large farmer, residing at Monaughty, near a section of the Birmingham Water Works, was charged with selling beer without a licence on the 30th and 31st March at Monaughty. The chief witness for the prosecution went to Monaughty on the dates given and purchased quarts of beer. The defendant denied having sold the beer. The magistrates, after a long and patient hearing, came to the conclusion that the defendant had been guilty of carrying on a shebeen on a small scale, and fined him £5 and costs.
