A busy December saw members of Llangunllo WI starting their Christmas celebrations with a trip to the panto at Shrewsbury’s Theatre Severn to see Jack and the Beanstalk. Catching the early train, the trip started with coffee, followed by retail therapy to do that all-important Christmas present buying. Shopped out, it was time for lunch at the Armoury before taking our seats in the theatre for an excellent, fun pantomime production. Post-pantomime drinks finished off a great day out before catching the evening train home. All agreed the whole day had been really enjoyable, “Oh yes it was!”
A few days later we did our usual community Christmas lunch. Around 40 sat down to enjoy lunch and a glass of wine, as well as taking the opportunity to catch up with friends and neighbours. There were lots of lively conversations and laughter, some of which were generated by the Christmas hats worn by members as they waited at tables.
The start of 2024 might have been wet and windy, but it didn’t put off a number of our fearless members continuing their weekly wild swimming
Whilst most of us stayed in the warm with a cup of coffee, they took the plunge in rather chilly water saying it was a great way to start the New Year, I guess we will just have to believe them!!
Our first meeting of 2024 saw members enjoy our version of Desert Island discs, with each member sharing a piece of music that was special to them. We enjoyed listening to and singing along with Tom Jones, Steve Wonder, The Monkees, Queen and lots of other favourite singers and bands. We heard about music memories from fabulous parties in Singapore to family dancing in the kitchen, concert going, to a maternity delivery room!!
