Our entries for the Powys – Radnor WI County Show in May were generally well received and overall members achieved good marks.
This year the theme was “The Four Seasons” and we were placed 2nd in the Staging and Display Exhibit (by half a point!), 2nd in the Floral Class, 2nd in the Small Table Display Flower Arrangement, 3rd in Beginner’s Art and gained 5th place overall. Well done everyone!
The chosen 2025 National WI Resolution is “Bystanders Can Be Lifesavers” – calling on WI members to work together to increase public confidence and training in the delivery of CPR, and to work with local organisations to help improve access to defibrillators in their communities, to give every person the best chance of surviving a cardiac arrest.
The resolution was passed with a resounding majority at the Annual Meeting on 4th June. The following week we held a community coffee morning in the village hall and the resolution was discussed. It is planned to follow this up with a CPR training session for the community to “back up” the village defibrillator. A number of years ago, the WI, assisted by a local resident, spearheaded a defibrillator for Llangunllo, which is now kindly maintained by the Community Council and volunteers.
Those present, were also asked to update our WI member, as Clerk to the Community Council, of the location of the numerous potholes on local roads, plus any other concerns, to report to Powys County Council.
Tea, coffee and cake were enjoyed and “Happy Birthday “sang to one of our members on her special day.
We now look forward to the Summer Afternoon Picnic later in the month, a demonstration on Hot Wax Painting in July, Tenpin Bowling in August and our Open Meeting in September as advertised in this edition of The Radnor.
