Film night, hosted by The Friends Of St. Cynllo’s Church, on November 18th at Llangunllo Community Hall, brought a 1980 classic to the big screen.
Set in Chicago, Illinois, The Blues Brothers is a hilarious, uplifting tale of two seasoned convicts, Elwood & newly released Joliet jailbird, Jake. When they learn that the orphanage where they grew up is threatened with closure, the two tearaways are determined to save the day by raising the 5,000 dollars needed to pay the rent..any which way they can!
During a lightbulb moment, whilst begrudgingly attending a Gospel Church Service, Jake “sees the light” and has the idea to get their old band back together to raise the cash. Music, mayhem & amusement are bound to ensue, as the blagards try to avoid those they’ve cheated, the police & the past from catching up with them. Starring; Dan Ackroyd, Jon Belushi, Carrie Fisher, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Cab Calloway, Twiggy, plus a host more, it once boasted one of the most expensive car chase scenes ever filmed.
It was certainly enjoyed by all who attended & as the credits rolled, a hearty applause rang out.
A few of the audience came along sporting the brothers’ trademark pork pie hats & wearing shades in true spirit of the theme.
During the interval, a choice of pulled pork or fish fingers were served in rolls, followed by chocolate or wild berry cheesecake, which went down extremely well!
The raffle was drawn, with an array of excellent prizes claimed by the lucky winners.
A fun & feel-good evening for all!
