Over the years there have been a few well-known faces who have visited Llangunllo. Some have been working here while others have enjoyed a few days’ break, enjoying all that Llangunllo has to offer.
William Hurt
Most people will recall the film made in and around Llangunllo and Knighton where the late William Hurt played the postmaster, Graham Holt, as a single parent who successfully adopted a son. ‘Second Best‘ was the name of the film and was completed in 1994 and was received with some critical acclaim.
Kevin Bacon
In 2019, another famous face from Hollywood, Kevin Bacon, arrived in Llangunllo with a film crew to make a horror film called ‘You Should Have Left.’ The Greyhound Inn was turned into a Welsh shop complete with a Welsh name over the window. He got to meet a few of the locals who also appeared as extras in the film.
Ryan Ledson & Lucy Fallon
2023 saw an evening of Ryan Ledson playing darts in The Greyhound Inn with a friend and some of the locals. Ryan is a regular first-team player with Preston North End. His partner, Lucy Fallon, spent most of the evening with a friend in the ‘snug’ and she is better known as Bethany Platt from Coronation Street. They were spending a few days here on holiday.
Ben Whittaker
Ben Whittaker, the British Olympic Silver Medal Boxer paid a visit to Llangunllo just months before leaving for Tokyo where the 2020 Olympics were held. He paid a visit to the Greyhound Inn with a friend (only drinking orange juice) and duly signed the visitors’ book. He has since gone on to win every professional boxing match he has taken part in.
I’m sure Llangunllo will welcome more famous visitors in the future and the locals will greet them in their usual welcoming ways.
