The Orinoco Sanctuary
New neighbours to our Llangunllo Community are Tina James and her family who have crossed the border from England to Wales complete with a whole host of animals. Tina has written a few words below introducing herself and what the Orinoco Sanctuary is about.
The days are flying by at the Orinoco Sanctuary. All the animals are now here at Llangunllo and have settled in so well. It’s amazing to watch the pigs, sleeping under the trees with the ponies. The goats Salt and Pepper who hated being outside have embraced outdoor life and look so well and content. The ducks are on the pond, the rabbits are out on the grass and Fern the deer keeps everyone in check.
We had our inspection from APHA as moved from just across the border from England to Wales. We were delighted to be found compliant in all areas, over 100 animals were looked at and across all species. We have a wonderful relationship with our Vet Chris Fernyhough at Trefalwyn. I have learned so much under his guidance and this has been of benefit to all our animals and their welfare.
We have a few new residents moved in, Novak the Soay Ram, Jasmine and Bobbin the young rabbits and Barbara the pig on her way.
We have had a lovely week with Lily our work experience student. This is our 5th year of taking students and they still come back as volunteers. I have attached a photo of Lily with her favourite Teddy Lamb.
Finally thank you to everyone who has been kind and welcoming to James, I and the animals. We aim to have an open day as soon as we have outside buildings finished for Autumn.
We look forward to the Panto Horse Derby and the Llangunllo show.
Be kind and Merciful to all animals.
Tina James and all.
P.S. Following the adventures of the two Deer, Fern & Forest and their unplanned visit to Llangunllo a few weeks ago, Fern was returned the following day and we are pleased to hear that Forest has been found.
