Ministry Area Service St Cynllo’s Church

A warm welcome at St Cynllo’s ……..

was extended to all who arrived at our Ministry Area Service at the end of August, including Arch Deacon Alan Jeavons, who took the service.

One of the challenges of our Ministry Area churches is their widely scattered nature with no definite central town where people might to bump into each other in the normal way of things. To engender cohesion isn’t an easy matter so this was a chance to get to know people from other churches and hear about some of the things that go on there.

This brought to mind the early Christian churches that stretched from Palestine, through Turkey and Greece to Rome. It was from encouraging letters to some of those churches that the readings for the day were taken.

Another of today’s challenges is, of course, the delivery of ministry as well as generally keeping the show on the road. Alan related a tale of priests, in the past, galloping from one church to another to deliver services of questionable reverence at half a guinea a time, fitting in as many as possible, in order to swell their bank balance. Things aren’t quite that bad now and much emphasis was placed on the important role of lay workers and church members themselves in sustaining vibrancy and commitment.

Our usual time for refreshments gave us a good opportunity to meet each other and talk a bit more about those issues as well exchanging news and ideas.

Many thanks to all who contributed to making St Cynllo’s a welcoming place, for those who provided food for thought as well as stomachs and, of course, for everyone who attended.
