Llangunllo WI Visit The Rodd

Members and partners had a very interesting visit to The Rodd, the centre for the arts. Founded by Sir Sidney Nolan, a pioneering Australian artist who, along with his wife Mary, founded the Sidney Nolan Trust in 1985 at their home The Rodd just outside Presteigne. The 17th century manor house, farm and estate continue to provide a setting for creativity, inspiring encounters with the arts, heritage and the beautiful landscapes of the area, drawing visitors from around the world.
Charlie, our lovely and informative guide, gave us a tour of the house and an insight into the restoration project, as well as the life and work of Sir Sydney Nolan who became a major name in British art in the 20th century. Sir Sydney remains well known globally for his experimental style and use of materials, and for his iconic paintings of the Australian bushranger outlaw Ned Kelly. His work continues to be very collectable.

Following our tour, we enjoyed coffee and cake before listening to another colleague of Charlie’s talk us through some of the art work on display. It was certainly an interesting and enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.
