Well, the County Show came around a little earlier this year, but as usual Llangunllo WI rose to the challenge managing to enter into most of the classes. Whether the items were crafted or cooked, floral or photographs, or the staging and display members who entered produced some fabulous items that all our WI were proud of.
All the hard work leading up to the show came together on Saturday April 11th. This year’s theme “The Seashore” provoked lots of discussion and ideas when we had our planning meetings, and those members interested in entering went away to get on with the items agreed.
As always, cometh the hour, 8.15 am to be precise, we loaded cars and arrived at the Community Centre in Knighton to set out our entries, arrange flowers and our staging and display. Once that was done, and in true competitor style, we looked at all the other WI entries and their interpretation of the theme. It’s fascinating to see all the entries together and reflect on the range of skills and talents members have across the federation.
Anyway, to our results. Staging and display 2nd, small floral display 1st, large floral display 3rd. In the cookery section the fudge came 1st the jam came 2nd and the traybake was joint 3rd so we came 2nd overall. The trinket box came joint 3rd, the photograph came 3rd, but Donna’s photograph in the novice section came first, winning the Ann Davies Memorial Trophy. Overall whilst not all of our entries were placed, they achieved very high scores, so a big thank you for entering, and very well done. A thank you also has to go to our members who encouraged and helped us in meetings, and on the day.
We would also like to thank the Federation Board of Trustees and all those involved in planning, setting up the hall, judges and stewards for all their work as well. Here’s to the 2027 County show.
