Llangunllo Show August 2025

Car booters and various other stalls, selling crafts, plants & produce attended the show. Demonstrations by Rebecca Twyman, showing how to spin yarn from locally sourced wool, guess the weight of 2 of Rachel Holman’s lovely sheep, Orinoco Animal Sanctuary brought an assortment of some of the animals they care for, Naughton Sheep and their, just for fun, ABXY competition, and local craftsman, Jonathan Protheroe, showing his skills of stone masonry and carving. Poortraits, (no it’s not a spelling mistake,) where you could sit and have a poor-portrait drawn for fun, or admire the fascinating collection of tools owned by Henry Morgan. The Radnorshire Wildlife Trust had a stall & raffle and the St John’s Ambulance were in attendance to make sure everyone was safe and get immediate medical assistance, if needed. For the first time, we were delighted to offer this year’s children’s bouncy castle for free from charge, all day!

On a warm sunny day, the bar appeared to be a much-welcomed asset to the show, as did the Hoof and Scoop Ice Cream trailer. Great competition and fun was had with the ‘Knocking The Nail Into The Great Lump Of Oak.’ The idea was to hit the nail into the wood with the least amount of tries. Obviously, being very close to the bar, as the day went on so it took a longer number of tries to even hit the nail, let alone sink it into the wood!

The BBQ servers were kept busy all day, flipping burgers and cooking sausages. The ‘Tea Tent’ was also popular, serving drinks and a delicious array of cakes & sweet treats. It was great to sit at a table for a rest and look at the books of photographs from Llangunllo and its people from days gone by. At the bottom end of the tent were the competition entries, of which there were so many this year. It’s great to see the local community taking part and showing just how much talent there is in this part of the world. Again, all ages could enter the competitions, submitting drawings, paintings, poetry, photography, flower arranging, crochet, crafts, jams, gin and cake, to name just a few! There were even a few entries in the ‘Men Only’ competition to bake Victoria Jam Sponge!

    1. There were 100s of photographs taken by our volunteers and it is difficult to capture everything, with the best intentions.

    2. I took a photo from afar, during the presentations, which is possibly the ’Best In Show’ cup being accepted. It is also possible that Jen, from Be Brilliant Dogs, who ran the Dog Show may also have one. Photos are still being sent through from various sources & it is a huge undertaking to collate everything onto the website immediately. Is the dog a black & white Border Collie?

      1. Yes, that’s the one. The dog’s owner (not me) would love a copy, especially of the cup presentation, &/or any others, when available.
