The weekend got off to an early and most enjoyable start for visitors to Llangunllo Community Hall, during the evening of Friday, 27th February. The Friends Of St Cynllo’s Church turned the ‘Saturday’ into ‘Friday Night Fever,’ making a play on the title of the 1978 film for their fundraising event, which included a two course meal and disco.
As fairy lights twinkled amongst pretty pink, white & green bunting, and the matching table decor welcomed attendees to their seats, some frivolous fever may have hit early, judging from the happy chatter and laughter heard around the room!
Joy is a wonderful sound, and as the jovial cacophony filled the hall, the kitchen was buzzing with busy cooking sounds, until diners were served a hearty supper of baked potatoes and a bolognaise filling, which included a vegan option. Grated cheese, peas, sweet corn and crusty bread could all be added onto the already loaded plates. A dessert of apple and raspberry crumble followed, topped with a choice of either custard or cream.
After our guests’ tummies were filled, they were able to relax and top-up their glasses at the bar, provided by ‘Behind Bars.’
A game of ‘Heads and Tails’ then took place and had everyone cheering when James, from The Orinoco Animal Sanctuary, was declared winner and last man standing, after correctly guessing which way a tossed coin would fall, during each of several rounds of the game. Those who made the wrong decisions along the way had to drop out and return to their seats. The drawing of the raffle followed, sending the lucky prize winners back to their tables with a smile.
Eventually, the tables were cleared and moved back to make room on the dance floor. The house lights were switched off and DJ Dave Morgan turned on his colourful disco lights and commenced with a fabulous, varied set of up-beat music, so the dancing and singing could continue into the night.
