— and couldn’t we all do with that! It came in the form of an imagined news report of the much loved Christmas Story especially transmitted to our carol service in Llangunllo; but first the Advent Candles were lit signifying hope, peace, joy and love which are also so much part of the message.
The words of the carols and readings combined with a solo of ‘Little Donkey,’ sung by one of our local musicians, brought us to the stable in Bethlehem and our correspondents there and in Jerusalem set the scene with a baby in the manger being visited by shepherds and then by local children who delighted us by singing ‘Away in a Manger’ accompanied by yet more of our own musicians.
With uplifting carols, musical items, traditional readings, and imaginative presentation carrying a message of hope and love to the many people who had taken time out of their busy day to join us, ‘joyful’ was a word that sprang easily to mind and, for a while, the cares of the world could be set to one side.
The warmth of community spirit was even more apparent than ever in our social time with tasty food and a glass or two of good cheer sending us on our way feeling that all that’s best about Christmas had really just begun.
