It was a great pleasure to be able to greet our newly appointed second minister who took our July Communion Service.
The lessons were those set for the day and Debbie drew particularly from the Gospel reading which was ‘the parable of the weeds’. She told us how it goes very much against the grain with most gardeners and farmers to leave the weeds but how, in the parable, we are told not to pull them up as that might damage the tiny seedlings they grow amongst.
Debbie’s honesty was to be admired when she admitted to being more like the naughty weeds in her response to the challenges of driving her car on our local roads! She undertook to try and remedy that and invited us also to try and become more like the useful plants and overcome the weeds – knowing that God gives us the time we need.
After the service it was good to be able to introduce Debbie to our custom of social time with refreshments as well as making sure she had the chance to get to know a few of us a little better.
We look forward to seeing Debbie again on August 30th at 10.30 when she, along with Rev. Rachael and the usual team, plan to put on a special Ministry Area Service.
